tian gjevik (eod,cn), passionate and curious about electronic music, found in a trondheim thrift store a tape of the norwegian legendary project : the educational music -sports/tools-. he contacted one of the two composers called dildrian schrodinger. he has managed to negociate with him a deal for a vinyl license with weme records. we can find in this project ordered by the norwegian state all an experimentation work with electronic machines from the 1980 s. it is sometimes accompanied by a clumsy singing quite modern at that time.

steve frisco, of serie limitee fame, brings us the latest bundle of hot tracks to hit wax classic in 2014. as the title suggests, steve takes us on a journey through low fidelity sounds and production techniques. think dark, moody, yet crunchy basement house tracks with inspiration taken from all over the u.s and the rest of the house world. it’s a generous offering as well. six whole dusty tunes for those diggers who are looking for something with a bit more range than another record of generic piano laden, house-by-numbers pieces that still seem to be flooding the record store shelves in 2014. the moods do vary from track to track, but they remain very reflective and almost melancholic at points. the title track, ‘adventure in lo-fi’, is the deepest of the lot with filtered chords, echoing claps and a sporadic kick pattern that often clears way for the track’s bass hits. now, compare that to ‘da brooklyn beat’. whilst the former had a distinct sunrise/sunset kind of feel to it, the latter is definitely more of a club affair. skippy snare hits and a strong organ lead the track on, and at the risk of utilizing very overused buzzwords such as ‘raw’ and ‘ruff’, this track, and the rest of the a-side for that matter, certainly captures that essence. stalwart wax classic fans will no doubt be picking this one up to add to their collection. however, i strongly recommend this ep as a jumping in point to the label for any newcomers out there

was für ein zirkus: be svendsen hat sich 4 titel von 4 virtuosen klangakrobaten geschnappt und jongliert sie im freien raum zwischen schnittigem house, klassischer rummelplatz-atmosphäre und stummfilmmusik der goldenen 20er. so beschwippst und überschwänglich dieses manöver klingen mag – wer sich rhythmisch dazu bewegt wird schnell merken, dass hier nach dem muster routinierter dancefloor-präzision gestrickt wurde. dafür bietet acid pauli natürlich eine echte steilvorlage: be svendsen schnallt die schunkelnden klavierakkorde von requiem for a loop auf eine swingende bassline, schlägt verwegene kapriolen und landet mit jazziger lässigkeit doch immer wieder auf der eins. die vielschichtige komposition, aus der sich der zauber des schlaraffenland vom electronic swing orchestra ergibt, untermalt er mit schlichten aber effizienten beat-texturen. zusammen mit monolink und inspiriert vom detailverliebten tiefgang des micronauten entsteht der wohl hypnotischste titel auf dieser ep, nämlich ein wunderbar verträumter remix zu modulation transfer function. und dann wäre da noch die zackige vertracktheit von the one, welche die hörerschaft wohl unwillkürlich in menschliche kanonenkugeln verwandeln dürfte.

accompany the reissue of woo s into the heart of love, emotional rescue is releasing a limited 7inch featuring songs not included on the vinyl pressing, plus a previously unreleased version of the beautiful title song, which only appeared in later form on their cd only, la luna album. with the original into the heart of love album only appearing as a 60 minute cassette-only release, several of the albums songs could not make the first time vinyl issue from emotional rescue. therefore, this limited edition 7inch includes two of those ommited songs. the wistful english folk duet between mark ives and sue amor on make me tea and it s sibling on the album, a little long way. possibly woo s most straight forward folk song, make me tea is as the title imagines a very particular english poem. recording as a duet between two late night lovers, awaking from post-love making slumber to find peace and with it, a nice, perfect cup of tea. however, it is the inclusion of the unreleased version of the title song, magic in the dark that is worth the admission price alone. taken from the cd only album, la luna, the original s short and gentle story of late night love is presented here in it s alternate demo form. a different vantage point is shown in revelation and then exhaltation. the sadder start expands in to a beautiful and wonderus folk celebration. mark s vocals and guitar are later joined by gentle rhythmic percussion from brother clive, before clarinets duet to a yearning finale. woo once again showing their unique mix of folk and new age electronics. a one off to cherish.

make no mistake, for vault series 15 the doors have been flung open to welcome a new act to the fold. theres very little known about mistake made. no records or releases exist to date, but they have impressed vault chief subjected enough to have them join the sequestered berlin-based crew. and in sublime compliance with the vault series creed, this debut effort from the shadowy outfit presents yet another set of functioning and frill-free dancefloor material, complete with a rusted-through hue of its own. on the a-side >wrist< jumps straight in with marching intent, complete with fidgety hat work thats both anxious and infectious. then on the flip, >ricochet< opens with field recordings tossed into a stormy concoction of ticks, hats and fuzzy atmospherics, teamed up here with one of those basslines that will keep you glued to the floor. >indec< then concludes in signature vault series style an ominous, growling number rattled with alarm bells and screeching, clangorous detail. its one of those monstrous slow-burners that leaves you wounded yet longing for more. all in all, a rounded first release from a new techno tour de force. this isnt the last we will be hearing from mistake made.

airplay from steve barker (the wire) on bbc radio and support from tomas rubeck (eshu) among others. kicking off the new fifth interval label, san francisco based dub techno producer federsen heads up the premier release. the title track is a hazy dub techno trip filled with washes of tape delayed chords and crisp snares while the b1 track - 50hz is a far more broken affair, 140 bpm gear comparable to the likes of deadbeat and strategy. for the final track, isodyne (one half of forward strategy group) shakes up 50 hz, slowing it down to an incredibly weighty 115 bpm, finalising an excellent release with something for discerning djs of all tastes.
